Haigh Hall is remembered by many who grew up in Wigan as a place of fun during the school holidays.
It is now a popular venue for weddings, as it is licenced for the wedding ceremony, and the extensive grounds are also home to the municipal golf course.
Market Street has undergone enormous changes, but the bright new shop fronts are in keeping with traditional Wigan
The new Galleries Open Air Market is bright clean and cheerful, but many Wiganers feel that the closure of the old Market Hall, and the loss of the market stalls around the outside meant a loss of the atmosphere which we all loved about the old place.
This magnificent old building was once the home of Coops Clothing company who manufactured gents clothing. It is now owned by Grosvenor Housing and is used as a young peoples training centre and has 42 self-contained flats.
Sadly, it is the view of many people in Wigan that it is unfortunate that these young people,lucky enough to live here, do not behave with the dignity that such a grand old building should deserve!
Wigan has two stations, Wigan Wallgate and the pictured Wigan North Western.Although both have been modernised in recent years, both still retain the character of old.
The pier is now a major tourist attraction and it is amazing that there are still many people who actually live in the town and yet have never been to visit the pier complex.
